Hand-Building Classes are taught to all levels simultaneously. Pinch-pots, coiled pots and slab-built work are all taught and their techniques combined to create original imaginative pieces. A broad palette of glazes is available to the hand-builder and a variety of glazing techniques is within reach of the student willing to devote the time to mastering them. Cups, bowls, plates and platters of all kinds, as well as wall plaques, sculptures and other decorative and artful pieces are among the works made by students of every level in the Hand-Building classes.
Good studio practices are taught or reviewed at all levels; cleaning up one’s work area, re-wedging used clay, stowing studio tools and the correct shelving of in-progress work are all necessary for maintaining a pleasant work space.
