Everything you make in a wheel class starts on a spinning wheel. You will learn how to control the clay while it spins. In handbuilding, you start with clay that you’ve made into a slab or coil or pinched into a shape. The results can vary widely, so choose a class based on your interests if you have an idea about what you want to make.

The class fee includes a weekly two hour class with an experienced teacher and unlimited access to clay. We offer two clay bodies: a white stoneware and a red stoneware. The studio has other clays that you can purchase which work well with our glazes.

No, Whatever appeals to you is the best place to start, but please reach out first through the contact form if you want to take a class here.

A tool kit, which is available at the studio, a hand towel, and/or an apron if you don’t want to wear your clay.

You should wear washable comfortable clothing, you may get dirty, don’t wear your favorite shoes, and if you have longer hair, you’ll want to tie it back so it’s out of the way.

There are no make up classes, your teacher was there as were your classmates and you chose the time and day. If for some reason the studio needs to cancel a class, the class will be added onto the end of the session and there may be an open studio during the cancelled class time.

Checks are preferred, but please contact us below if you have any questions or considerations.

We have generous open studio hours on weekends. You can sign up for a two hour time slot in advance. If you’d like to stay longer, when you get to the studio, please check for availability in the next period and sign up for it then. This policy exists so that we can be fair to your fellow potters. If you have not signed up for open studio when you arrive, you will regrettably be turned away. Open studio links will be sent after payment for the class is received and only current students may sign up for open studio.

Friday 6-8 pm, and Saturday & Sunday 1-6 pm.

Studio potters have access to the studio during times there aren’t classes or open studio for students. You must be capable of independent work and also have taken at least one pottery class at chambers pottery. You must also reserve the time slot that you want before coming in for your pottery session.

Yes, our studio is beginner friendly! However, all our classes are currently mixed level. We have many repeat students who choose to stay in the same class based on the time and day that works best for their schedules. Mixed level classes have worked well for most students because you get to see what time and consistent effort can nurture and this is a warm and welcoming community to new students.

Yes we do. It’s 8 cents per cubic inch for each firing, minimum is 2.5 inches in every dimension. Our glazes are tested on the clay bodies we have here. There is no guarantee that our glazes will work with your clay body if you don’t use one of the clay bodies we carry.

We bisque at cone 06 and we glaze at cone 6 oxidation.

As a student you will be assigned half a shelf space. If you make more than what can fit on your shelf, the studio has overflow shelves but work cannot be on the shelves for more than two weeks and must be labeled with your name, class, and date of storage.

Please start your cleanup 15 minutes before the end of your class or open studio period. Don’t leave stuff for other studio mates to take care of after you’ve left. This is when things get forgotten like tools or clay on the wedging tables, so please pay attention to your surroundings. To make things easier for yourself, try to clean as you go. When you’re finished in one area, clean it up before you move to the next area.

Please don’t wash your clay hands in the bathroom sink or the kiln room sink. Please use the large double sink in the classroom space.

Bikes aren’t allowed in the studio, or in the lobby of the building, please lock it up outside.

Please don’t bring guests to your class or open studio.
